Project Updates 2011
NYEN Soccer Academy

The NYEN soccer academy was established in 2007, as a sports department which was charged with organizing community soccer galas, but in September 2010 it was recognized by the Uganda Youth Football Association  (UYFA) which is affiliated to the federation of Uganda football association (FUFA). NYEN soccer academy is a year round soccer program, where the focus is on developing talented soccer players through high quality training, and reducing the number of games. The players of NYEN soccer academy are lined up to enjoy the pleasant temperatures for a perfect preparation either for college or for a professional career.

More than 30 players in the age of 16 – 21 are competing currently in each practice to show the head coach of the academy Mr. Musoke Ntanzi Edrine that they are ready for a tryout at national level. Some of them need a few more months of serious preparation in order to get a chance into competitive national football. The biggest mistake here in the Uganda is the fact, that players, especially in younger age groups, have too many games. At NYEN we are making sure that players grow up with a healthy mix of quality training and quality games.

Education

Many parents are sending their children not only to take the opportunity to become pro in the future, but also to have a better chance to get a full scholarship at a college. We are working together very closely not only with many professional clubs in the country, but also with numerous colleges around the country, with whom we are in contact almost every week. Through our different options of schools (public, private or High School) within our academy system, we are also making sure through our education supervisor that the players are taken into school at subsidized tuition fee for those who cannot afford yet are very talented, and also makes sure that all the players have the necessary good grades.

Schedule

The players in the academy practice 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon during the holidays and 4 hours in the morning every Saturday when at school so as to improve their technical, physical, mental and tactical ability. In addition the players also have a meaningful match every weekend to stay in constant game shape or to show the coaches on what specific part of their game they have to work on.

The players practice 4 times per week, when in holidays and the games on Saturday are very important to put into action what the players are trying to accomplish during the week in the practices. Especially the intensity and style of play of European clubs need to be simulated in the games here, in order to have a fair chance when some of the players get the opportunity for a try out in Europe in the future. Namusera UMEA and Kavumba soccer grounds are the home grounds of NYEN soccer academy, and are located in Wakiso district.
